From the hands that made Coraline
Wildwood is LAIKA's sixth feature and its first rated PG-13. It was built at the studio's facility in Hillsboro, Oregon across 136 sets with 231 practical puppets, every frame moved by hand, and at 140 minutes it is the longest stop-motion animated feature ever released.
Based on the novel
Adapted by screenwriter Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Missing Link) from Wildwood, the 2011 novel written by Colin Meloy of The Decemberists and illustrated by Carson Ellis. The forest is the Impassable Wilderness across the river from Portland, Oregon, the city where LAIKA and the authors live.
Voice cast and music
Peyton Elizabeth Lee is Prue and Jacob Tremblay is Curtis, with Carey Mulligan as Alexandra, Mahershala Ali as Brendan the Bandit King, Angela Bassett as the General, and Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits and Richard E. Grant. The score is by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Paddington).

Travis Knight is the president and CEO of LAIKA, the Oregon stop-motion studio where he was lead animator on Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls. He made his directorial debut with Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and winner of the BAFTA for Best Animated Film, then directed the live-action Bumblebee (2018) and Masters of the Universe (2026). Wildwood, adapted from Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis's novel, is his return to stop-motion and the studio's largest production.
